District Attorney Daniella M. Shorter announces the conviction of DONTAYE SHEPPARD for Failure to Stop a Motor Vehicle When Officer Signals.
On October 7, 2024, Dontaye Sheppard appeared before the honorable Judge Tomika H. Irving in Claiborne County Circuit Court and plead guilty to the aforementioned charge. Judge Irving withheld acceptance of the plea of guilty to said charge. Mr. Sheppard has been placed in the District Attorney’s Pretrial Intervention Program for a period of three (3) years. If he fails to complete the Pretrial Intervention Program, Sheppard faces up to ten (10) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Defendant Sheppard must pay to the District Attorney’s Office court costs in the amount of $427.50, a bond fee of $310.00 and a fine of $1,500.00 to be forwarded to the Circuit Clerk. In addition, Defendant Sheppard will pay to the Office of the District Attorney an administrative fee of $100.00 per month for a grand total of $5,837.50. Upon immediate admission to PTI program Dontaye Sheppard shall pay $2,000.00 of said monies, with the remainder to be paid at the rate of $106.60 beginning November 1, 2024.
On August 12, 2023 Mississippi Highway Patrol attempted to stop Dontaye Sheppard for passing a vehicle in a no passing lane. Upon the officer activating his blue lights and siren, Sheppard ignored police signals and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase traveling up to speeds of 121 mph on Hwy 18 in Claiborne County, Mississippi. Sheppard’s actions were a blatant disregard to the value of human life and the citizens of Claiborne County.
