District Attorney Daniella Shorter Levy announces the conviction of John Thorton for Two (2) Counts of Commercial Burglary. On June 9, 2025, John Thornton appeared before the Honorable Judge Tomika H. Irving in Claiborne County Circuit Court and plead guilty to 2 counts of Commercial Burglary. Judge Irving sentenced Defendant Thorton, in both counts, to Five (5) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), with Three (3) of those years suspended and Two (2) years to serve.
Both counts are to run concurrently.
Defendant Thorton is required to pay court cost in the amount of Four Hundred and
Twenty-Seven Dollars and Fifty Cents ($427.50), $150.00 investigative cost to District Attorney’s Office, $100.00 to Crime Victims Compensation Fund, and a bond fee as ordered by the Court.
On November 26, 2021 Port Gibson Police Department received 2 calls of a security alarm service for Dollar General for a possible breaking and entering. Police obtained video evidence of Thorton’s forced entry into Dollar General on two separate occasions that night. Thorton was later apprehended with evidence of the theft on his person.
