District Attorney Daniella Shorter Levy announces the conviction of Landra Gaines for Aggravated Assault. On June 9, 2025, Landra Gaines appeared before the Honorable Judge Tomika H. Irving in Jefferson County Circuit Court and plead guilty. Judge Irving sentenced Defendant Gaines to Twenty (20) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC), and upon release Five (5) years of supervised probation. Defendant Gaines is also required to pay court costs in the amount of Four Hundred and Twenty-Seven Dollars and Fifty Cents ($427.50) and a bond fee as ordered by the Court.
On April 15, 2022, Gaines was admitted into the home of his neighbor, 79-Year-old, Susie Chambliss requesting to borrow two eggs. Upon entry to Ms. Chambliss’s home Gaines attacked Ms. Chambliss with a knife, causing injuries to her face, hand, and neck. Ms. Chambliss fought Gaines until he ran from the home believing someone had arrived. The elderly citizens in our community must be respected and supported. An attack on them or any other disregard for the citizens of Jefferson County will not be tolerated by District Attorney Shorter Levy.
