PERRY BROWN PRESS RELEASE

DA Daniella Shorter Office Seal

June 25, 2025

District Attorney Daniella Shorter-Levy announced the conviction of Perry Brown for the crime of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Brown was sentenced by Judge Tomika H. Irving to serve five (5) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with five (5) years suspended and upon his release one (1) year of supervised probation. Also, he was ordered to pay court costs of $427.50 and a $150.00 investigative fee to the District Attorney’s Office.

Should this case have gone to trial, the prosecution would have shown that on December 28, 2022, a search warrant was conducted in Hazlehurst by the Copiah County Sheriff’s Department, and during that search, Brown was found to be in possession of a firearm while he was being legally searched. Once Brown was arrested, it was learned that he was a convicted felon, and he subsequently was charged with being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Based on the above-mentioned facts, Brown pleaded guilty to the aforementioned crime.
