Upon fleeing the scene the suspect, later identified as Tarayvian Miller, shot and killed Vincent Ratliff while attempting to take Ratliff’s vehicle. Laura Grubbs, Ratliff’s 7-months pregnant niece, had accompanied him to the store. Miller shot Ratliff as Ratliff attempted to protect Grubbs. Vincent Ratliff died from his injuries. Miller later carjacked Bertha Mae Watkins, and her two minor passengers, taking her vehicle after discarding Ratliff’s car.

District Attorney Levy wants to reiterate that, “Without community involvement and brave citizens willing to speak up, our office could not put forth our best effort to combat crime in the 23rd District.”
