District Attorney Daniella Shorter Levy announced the conviction of Toney Bussey for the crime of taking away a motor vehicle.
On January 5, 2026, Bussey appeared in Claiborne County Circuit Court and pled guilty to the crime of taking away a motor vehicle that occurred in Claiborne County. Circuit Judge Tomika H. Irving withheld the plea of guilty and placed Bussey in the Pretrial Intervention Program of the District Attorney’s Office for a period of three (3) years. If he fails to adhere to the terms and conditions of the program, Bussey faces up to fifteen (15) years of incarceration in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for taking away a motor vehicle.
During his three (3) years in the program, Bussey has been ordered to pay $3,600 in administration fees to the District Attorney’s Office for his participation in the program, a $150.00 investigative fee to the District Attorney’s Office, and $427.50 in court costs to Claiborne County. Also, he was ordered to pay restitution to the victim, Talisha Sandifer, in the amount of $2,500.00.
On October 1, 2024, it was reported to the Alcorn State University Police and the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office that the vehicle of Talisha Sandifer was stolen from the campus of Alcorn State University. During the investigation of this matter, Bussey was determined to be a suspect in this crime when it was learned that he had stolen the car along with a group of guys. As a final result of this investigation, Bussey was arrested when it was learned that he had taken part in selling the stolen vehicle to another person in Brookhaven, and as a result of this, he pled guilty to the crime of taking away a motor vehicle.
